Rapiro: The Rasp Pi robot

Future Plans

Ishiwatari told us, "I was in grade school the first time I put an educational robot set together." Rapiro will have a potential functionality far greater than that first unit. Therefore, it is not surprising that the ingenious Ishiwatari predicts, "I think that the Rapiro will be an educational robot. It would make me happy to be able to advance education in the field of technology in this way." This kind of thinking aligns Ishiwatari with Eben Upton, who originally developed the Raspberry Pi for educational purposes (Figure 5).

"At the same time I think Rapiro is not just interesting to beginners but also to people with advanced skills," adds Ishiwatari. "This is especially the case when you control the robot not just via Arduino. Adding the Raspberry Pi as a brain also makes more complex projects possible."

On the final question of whether he is already planning projects for the future, Ishiwatari replies immediately in the negative, "Currently no. My schedule will be full next year with getting Rapiro to market."
