Chromium OS 0.4 for Raspberry Pi 2
The new release of the Google-sponsored Chromium OS for Raspberry Pi 2 is available for download. Chromium OS is Google's open source version of the Chrome OS system, which is used in Chromebook laptops. The Chrome OS and Chromium OS systems are based on Linux and are designed to offer easy access to the Google Apps online toolset. The developers say version 0.4 "Lenny Bruce" is a "massive" release with significant performance improvements and other updates.
For general-purpose Raspberry Pi home hacking, Chromium OS does not appear to offer any benefits over Raspbian and other Pi Linux systems, but if your goal is to make your Rasp Pi resemble and behave like a Chromebook, Chromium OS for Raspberry Pi provides a convenient solution.
Pi in Space
Two Astro Pi experiment modules, dubbed Ed and Izzy, have both been deployed on the International Space Station by British Astronaut Tim Peake. The Astro Pi modules, with Raspberry Pi computers within, include science experiments developed by UK students through a national competition.
See the Astro Pi website (http://astro-pi.org/) for experiment results and other information on the Astro Pi project.
